It is now possible to obtain images of the heart in color and 3D, available in real time (4D) in the operating theatre. In a Swiss first in January 2017, the cardiovascular surgery and anaesthesiology services tested an innovative device offering a better view of dysfunctions before surgery.
This system offers many advantages. The surgeon can vary the viewing angles at their leisure and obtain dynamic images of the inside of the organ. Echocardiography (FR) makes it possible to guide and control the surgical procedure better.
Another advantage is that everyone in the operating theatre gains a better understanding of the cardiovascular problems to be treated. The length of time that the heart is stopped can therefore be reduced.
4D echocardiography is indicated for most cardiovascular surgery operations.
