For a consultation at HUG, in principle you need to be referred by your attending physician. You can check this by calling our various consultations. Find all the useful information in the Consultations Guide.
An outpatient procedure is a medical procedure scheduled to be performed on a single day. You are then admitted to the hospital, you are operated upon or you undergo an examination and you return home on the same day.
Today, thanks to technological and medical advances, in particular minimally invasive surgery, which has been extensively developed at HUG, it is often possible to receive surgery without being hospitalized. In 2011, more than 6,000 outpatient procedures were performed.
Note: To qualify for outpatient surgery at HUG, a third party must be available to drive you home when you leave the hospital and must be available to stay by your side during the night following the operation.
