A Center for Musculoskeletal and Sports Medicine for Switzerland's number one orthopedic hospital

Switzerland's number one hospital for orthopedics and trauma care, HUG has already demonstrated its expertise in this area. By creating a Center For Musculoskeletal And Sports Medicine, it has confirmed its leading position and provides optimal care to both everyday patients and sports stars.

Whether on an outpatient or inpatient level, the center's mission is to treat all forms of ailments and injuries arising from the practice of a sport or any type of physical exercise. During the rehabilitation stage, it benefits particularly from the infrastructure of the Beau-Séjour and Bains de Cressy Hospitals.

In its daily activities, the center conducts sports fitness testing. These examinations involve both professionals upon resuming their sport at the start of the season and amateurs who wish to resume a sports activity after stopping for several years. Function and performance tests along with advice in order to resume physical activity safely.

With a similar purpose, function tests are performed: stress, strength, endurance and power tests. The entire musculoskeletal system is examined. For example, amateur athletes looking to prepare for a marathon can benefit from this set of tests, which also measures their breathing capacity in different ways, in order to program the best training rhythm.

At an earlier stage, the prevention of possible injury is also one of the Center's activities. At the same time, special emphasis is placed on promoting physical activity, for everyone, taking into account individual needs and abilities, at any age.

Beyond the spirit of competition, all the attributes of a healthy lifestyle are highlighted, taking all the necessary precautions to ensure that sport, at all levels, is beneficial without causing serious injury.
