Preparation for the intervention

How should you prepare for your admission?

The Neurosurgery Division will send you a document to inform you about admission procedures for the division. You will also be scheduled for a pre-hospitalization consultation where you will see an anesthetist, a Resident in the Neurosurgery Division and a specialized nurse.

The perineum

During pregnancy and delivery (vaginal and caesarean), your perineum is put under great strain. In the medium term, you may experience involuntary loss of urine, stools or wind when sneezing, coughing or exerting yourself. If the problem persists beyond six weeks after delivery, talk to your gynecologist or midwife. Specialized perineum consultations such as those in the maternity ward are available. Perineal re-education can be offered to you by a midwife or a specialized physiotherapist.

When pain persists

When it gets you down

Chronic pain is very different from the acute pain that follows an illness, an accident, an examination or even an operation. The pain frequently has a serious disturbing effect on daily life and can result in mood swings.

Ways to feel better

How do you deal with pain that remains after your treatment? There are ways:

Female genital mutilation

The HUG Gynecology Division has extensive experience in the prevention, care, and management of complications related to female genital mutilation.

Female genital mutilation (or FGM) refers to the ritual removal of external female genitalia, such as excision, infibulation, or circumcision. There are several categories of female genital mutilation. All can have major consequences on the physical, psychological, and sexual health of women. In Switzerland, it is estimated that this affects 15,000 women.
