Baby

In the maternity ward

Congratulations, you’ve had a baby! You are entering a new stage of life during which you will get to know yourself better.

At birth and during your stay in the maternity ward, your baby will undergo various examinations and medical check-ups to make sure the baby is in good health.

The baby's weight

A newborn baby may lose up to 10% of its birth weight, which is normal. In the following weeks, the baby gradually regains weight and continues to grow. This development is subject to regular monitoring.

Babies born before the 28th week of pregnancy rarely present serious cerebral lesions thanks to hospital care. However, they have difficulty at school, learn less well, demonstrate lower levels of concentration and find it difficult to interpret emotions.

During pregnancy, it is recommended that a total of three ultrasound scans should be performed:

Hemorrhoids

I have hemorrhoids, what should I do?

Pregnancy can lead to hemorrhoids. They are due to the compression of the uterus on the large blood vessels, a hormone (progesterone) and constipation. Hemorrhoids can be painful and can result in bleeding, but they do not represent a risk to your baby.

Talk to your physician.

Practical advice:

  • Avoid constipation
  • Your physician may prescribe a hemorrhoid cream
  • Avoid prolonged standing
