HUG has put in place numerous services and provisions aiming to improve its staff members’ health and well-being.
All the same, employees have to be aware of their existence and remember to make use of them.
This is one of the aims sought by the “Wellness at work” day.
During the first day, organized on 21 January 2016, participants had the opportunity to attend discovery workshops, during which they received advice and information on topics such as back problems, stress and how to find a work-life balance.
Stands allowed them to discover the different services put in place for their health and well-being within the institution.
Two conferences also featured on the programme for the day, which will be held for the second time on 12 October 2017.
264 members of staff took part in the "2016 wellness at work” day
In a hospital, employees are sometimes confronted with particularly emotional events: learning of the death of a patient, observing a family’s distress or coping with the violence of a visitor are all situations that can be very difficult to handle and cause real trauma.
A working group has been formed with the aim of drawing up a support programme for members of staff who have experienced these difficult situations. The goal is to harmonise practices within the hospital, so that every member of staff concerned can benefit from structured professional support when needed.
In addition, HUG organized a press conference on 1 September 2016 to raise the public’s awareness of the problem of the attacks that healthcare personnel sometimes face. From now on, it will systematically press charges when attacks are made against staff.
