In 2015, Geneva University Hospitals joined the Quality Health Care Initiative, or Qualitätsmedizin Initiative (IQM). Founded in Germany in 2008, this association is made up of over 400 hospitals in Germany and Switzerland. Its aim is to strengthen the approach to continuous quality improvement and to facilitate the sharing of data and practices between partner organizations. It is based on three principles:
The HUG therefore has a comparison with over 400 hospitals and more than 5 million hospitalizations. The indicators are similar to those of the FOPH.
Participating hospitals must publish their results on their website. The latest HUG results (2016) are available online.
Every two years, the hospital is visited by a team of medical and healthcare peers from the IQM. The team comes to discuss - with the professionals concerned - 15 cases selected by the IQM for an indicator whose results are apparently unsatisfactory. A report of the visit is then sent to the hospital and a follow-up of any recommendations to be put in place must be carried out.
