Emerging viruses: these words evoke elusive enemies and uncontrollable health crises. An unknown disease hits a corner of the world and has repercussions on global health. Like H5N1or MERS several years ago, Ebola in 2015 and Zika in 2016.
Highly involved during these health crises and frequently called upon by international organisations, three HUG departments decided to set up an emerging viral disease center (FR), involving the infectious diseases department, the tropical and humanitarian medicine department and the vaccinology center.
This centre combines clinical expertise, skills and resources, including in the field of basic research, to offer a coordinated and integrated response to any unexpected viral disease.
