Operating on tiny Swiss hearts

Created under the auspices of the Vaud-Geneva Association, the Swiss-French academic centre of paediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery is crucial to French-speaking Switzerland. It will allow for further expansion of this activity, in which Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) and the HUG have jointly developed a high level of expertise.

Specifically, the centre provides paediatric cardiology consultations in French-speaking Switzerland, through the two university hospitals' networks in the cities of Aigle, Delémont, Neuchâtel, Payerne, Porrentruy and Sion. Operations take place on both the HUG and CHUV sites. It is the doctors and surgeons who travel, rather than patients.

The centre is headed by Professor Maurice Beghetti, and coordinated by Professor René Prêtre.
