HUG and University of Geneva researchers studied the rhythm of alpha and beta pancreatic cells. These two hormones, which are responsible for the production of insulin and glucagon, regulate the blood glucose level.

Mission

Mission of the Endocrinology, Diabetology, Hypertension and Nutrition Division

  • Provide diagnostic and therapeutic care for patients with endocrine disorders, metabolic diseases, hypertension or nutritional disorders, taking into account the services provided by other HUG divisions, particularly the Reproductive Medicine and Gynecological Endocrinology Unit, and the Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology Unit
  • Care for patients admitted to General Internal Medicine beds with endocrine disorders, metabolic diseases, hypertension or nutritional disorders
  • Manage patients admitted to the Radiation Oncology Division for radioactive iodine treatment
  • Patients can be admitted or treated as outpatients. In the latter case, they are given a referral consultation by their regular physician

Mission

Mission of the Development and Growth Division

  • Provide specialist care for children at risk of developmental or growth disorders. This care starts at birth and continues to the end of adolescence, to provide good health and appropriate development for children. Its activities include:

    • Supporting newborns and their mothers in the Maternity
    • Medical care and support for the development of sick newborns who are at risk of developmental disorders
    • Neurodevelopmental follow-up for children who are at risk of or who have a developmental disorder
    • Follow-up for children with endocrine diseases (e.g. diabetes, growth disorders, puberty disorders, etc.).
       
  • Promoting excellence and providing leadership in the fields of developmental pediatrics and pediatric endocrinology and diabetology.
  • Promoting dialogue both nationally and internationally, and achieving the highest levels of quality in care, teaching and research.
  • Training medical students, residents, nurses, midwives and dieticians.
  • Carrying out high-quality research in child development and pediatric endocrinology.
