Mission of the Pulmonary Hypertension Program

The Pulmonary Hypertension Program proposes, via medicine and a clinical pathway based on evidence, coordinated diagnostic and therapeutic strategies dedicated to patients who have pulmonary hypertension.

The program includes inter alia monthly multidisciplinary meetings, and provides highly specialized medical follow-up, patient therapeutic education, and takes part in the national registry for this disease.

It is invested in several research and teaching projects.

Program objectives

The objectives of the pulmonary hypertension hospital program are: to make it possible to assert the position of HUG as a referral center for pulmonary hypertension, notably to be able to:

  • Detect patients with pulmonary hypertension
  • Ensure standardized and highly specialized care for these patients
  • Assure a clinical pathway for the care of PH patients with a flare-up of right heart failure
  • To provide outpatient follow-up for pulmonary hypertension patients
  • To anticipate and reduce the risk of anesthesia, by optimizing perioperative care
  • To participate in the national pulmonary hypertension registry, under the supervision of the Swiss Pulmonary Hypertension Society (Dr.
  • F. Lador, President Elect).
  • To provide therapeutic education to pulmonary hypertension patients
  • To develop research and clinical physiology projects related to pulmonary vascular disease with international collaborations.
  • To develop an undergraduate and postgraduate program focused on pulmonary vascular diseases.
